1st Annual Casting for a Cure

I was blessed to be a part of the 1st Annual Casting for a Cure tournament held on East Lake in Sparta, Illinois this past Saturday. I have always had a soft spot for kids and was an event that I wasn’t going to miss. The following is from Molly Hamilton, the mother of Seth Hamilton who was diagnosed with Diabetes. She is also the coordinator for this event.

Two years ago, this month, Seth was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This means his body can no longer produce insulin itself. As a result, Seth checks his blood sugar 4-10 times a day and takes at least 4 shots daily. Presently, there is not a cure for diabetes and Seth will have to continue to take insulin until there is a cure. Seth has really been strong through all of this and we give glory to God for all of his strength. Upon his diagnosis I told him we would try to put together a fishing tournament to raise money for a cure. As a parent, you feel helpless when your child is sick and this was one way we could help fund research as well as encourage Seth to continue participating in all of his hobbies and activities. Fishing and hunting are two passions for Seth and this was a wonderful event for him. He helped put the event together and truly enjoyed fishing and getting to meet you and the others.”

Seth is an amazing young man. In fact I watched him catch the first fish of the morning and was at one time leading the event. I know he will continue fishing and only to become a great angler. After the event Seth even helped me coordinate the other young kids so I could take them out fishing. For such a young age, he is truly a leader.

I would like to thank Strike King Lure Company for donating product for the event. They are a leader when it comes to charities. Also I would like to thank Ardent for donating a reel to Seth.

This event raised more than $1700.00. All proceeds are being donated to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

I look forward to being a part of this great event next year.
