Calm winds and sunny skies met the 98 boats that competed in
this year’s 15th Annual Strike King Open Bass Fish Off sponsored by
17th St. Bar & Grill on Kinkaid Lake in Murphysboro, Il. Bites
seemed to be few and far between as most of the fish were coming off of their
beds. The team of Steve Powers and Mitch Gosha were able to find three nice
fish left on beds and caught those while the other two were caught guarding
fry. Their total weight was 20.52 pounds. They won $2400.00 for first and also
received $740.00 for Big Bass. The second place team of Marc Sheffer and Kevin
Reynolds did about the same as the first place team. They caught a couple of
fish off beds and the rest by throwing a Senko to bass guarding fry. They
weighed in 16.63 pounds and received $1500.00. In third was Duane Grammer and
Todd Hughes. They caught all of their fish on frogs and Skinny Dippers. Their
five fish weighed 14.75 and received $1100.00
