Time to get Sensitive

Many of us love to throw a texas rig plastic worm. It is a technique that has been around for decades. Today it still out catches bass versus any other lure on the market today. When all else fails, tie on a texas rig soft plastic.
Strike King continues to grow and broaden their line of baits and terminal tackle. This year they came out with the Tour Grade Tungsten Weights. Tungsten has been around for a few years and the price of them are fairly expensive. Strike King, once again, will now make it affordable for the weekend fishermen to buy their Tour Grade Tungsten Weights. They come in nine sizes ranging from 1/8 oz. to 1 1 ¼ oz. They also have five different colors to choose from.
I often get the question on why I use tungsten weights versus traditional lead weights. I usually say, “Because they are more sensitive.” That sounds good but better yet I will prove it. If you want to really see the difference tungsten makes, try this test. Take two of your rods, preferably the exact same or reasonably close and spool one of them up with seventeen pound monofilament, a ¼ oz. lead weight, a hook, and a worm. Then take the other rod and spool it up with your favorite fluorocarbon line in seventeen pound test. I like Vicious Fluorocarbon because it is strong, reliable, and cost. Take a Tour Grade Tungsten ¼ oz. weight, a hook, and a worm. Go out to the lake or a pond and use the rod with the lead weight first. Take ten or twenty casts with it. Throw it around some cover like logs or rocks. Then pick up the one with the tungsten weight. I guarantee it will only take you two or three casts before you say, “ I can’t believe the difference!” You will never go back once you use tungsten.
Another advantage of the Tour Grade Tungsten is that they are smaller in size compared to their lead cousins. With the weight being smaller, you tend to hang up less. Also the coating on the weight makes it slide through the fish’s mouth unlike lead in which fish can hold onto much better decreasing the chances of the hook penetrating.
There is a lot of fishing tackle on the market today that catch more fishermen than fish. The Tour Grade Tungsten Weights is not one of them. They will actually help you catch more fish because they are more sensitive than lead weights. If you can feel the fish pick the bait up before he spits it out, then the better chance you have in catching that fish. Pair that up with some Vicious Fluorocarbon and you will catch more fish. That is a fact.
