The buck of a lifetime...

My wife told me to keep the story short. So I will try. Call me and I will tell you the whole thing. I love talking about it.

I do not believe I have ever sweated so much in a deer stand in my life. It turned out to be the best deer hunting decision I have ever made. On opening day of bow season I set out for a quick hunt. I settled into my stand around five p.m. The sun was burning my face off. I needed some sun screen. My friend Justin was hunting his place also so we were texting each other on how stupid we were for hunting in ninety degree heat. At 6:15 a deer entered the field. When he lifted his head I immediately knew it was him. The double drop tine buck. Me and my wife and kids had seen this deer in full velvet a couple of months ago. I told myself that I would dedicate my whole season to hunting this giant. Now standing sixty yards away stood this giant. Following him into the field were four other bucks including a big eight pointer. They fed around for a while and slowly made their way away from me. I thought to myself,” God gives us what we need, not what we want.” I needed to just see him and that made the hunt. I got to watch this magnificent buck for forty five minutes. It was getting dark so I decided to call it a night. I lowered my bow and gathered my stuff. I glanced up into the field and saw the big eight point turn and head my way. I tried to hurry up but the buck kept coming. The double drop tine buck turned and followed. My heart skipped a beat. I raised my bow back up. By now the eight point is twenty yards. I nocked an arrow and waited. The eight point was now ten yards away when I drew on the giant. Instead of crossing my shooting lane he followed the other buck. At five yards I let the arrow fly. The buck ran out fifty yards and stopped. Then he disappeared. I was shaking like a leaf. I did not know if I made a good shot or what. I got out of my tree and saw my arrow dripping in blood so I knew that was a good sign. I eased out of the woods after I saw him lying down but not dead.

Fast forward two hours later. Justin, Ben, Heidi and I went back out after him. When we got to the spot Ben shined the light on him. He was still alive. We decided to not push him and come back later. That turned out to be the best decision ever. The next morning my brother Lee, my wife and I went back out. We got into the woods and headed where I thought he was. We walked up to where he had bedded down and my heart sunk. He was gone. I started walking down the hill when I noticed the huge deer laying dead on the side of the hill. After several hugs, high fives, and pictures, we loaded him out. I had no idea that this buck was that big. He sports a nineteen inch inside spread. His bases measure nine inches and seven inches. He has fifteen scorable points. And the best part is those double drops. We scored him190 inches gross. He is the buck of a lifetime.
